This limited first edition book features five sermons given by Dean Howard Thurman in the Marsh Chapel at Boston University. Kennedy printed other objects for Thurman, such as the Christmas and special event cards for Thurman’s San Francisco Church for the Fellowship of All Peoples.

Kennedy’s printing approach focused on strong craftsmanship. Interestingly, nearly all of his publications avoided the use of colophons and pressmarks, including this book, although Kennedy did take great pride in his work. He viewed the printer’s position as that of the “skilled intermediary between author and reader,” marking his works often with the simple “Designed and Printed by Lawton Kennedy.”
