Lawton Kennedy had a known passion for printing books related to American history and the western United States. This publication, which he printed along with his son Alfred in 1977, features the script for the Bohemian Club’s production of El Dorado. The play follows the California Gold Rush in 1850 and the hero Charles Chadburn as he navigates the newly American land to capture territory, adventures, fellowship, and political domination. The typography and design for this publication is fitting to its subject, featuring serif fonts reminiscent of the 19th century western style, and the thoughtful inclusion of cream-colored paper with deckled edges.
