An interview with Lawton Kennedy was held in 1966 by Ruth Teiser, and published in a collection of interviews entitled Printing as a Performing Art in 1970.  In this collection, which was undertaken by the Regional Oral History Office of the Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley, nine San Francisco Bay Area printers were interviewed about their careers and their thoughts on the industry. The Bay Area during the 20th century was a hub for book creation and printing, and the project sought to document this rich tradition through oral interviews and a book published by The Book Club of California. This interview highlights Kennedy’s history, his outlook on the field, and his methods and materials of choice.
