Unitarian Church North was founded in Mequon, Wisconsin in late 1962 and became a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association in January 1963. Initially, services were held in members' homes, as there were few members, and later by renting space in a Whitefish Bay school. After twenty years of renting space in a Mequon Women's Club, in 1986 the congregation moved into its permanent home, an octagonal-shaped barn building on Port Washington Road in Mequon. The congregation is still very proud of this building and its struggles to build it and retain it, at one point choosing to keep the building rather than a paid minister when finances were tight. It is likewise proud of its survival for the past sixty years, having seen its membership grow and shrink over the years. The members of the small congregation contribute what they can in time and talent to keep the church going and value their ability to collaborate and come to decisions as a group. A history of the congregation including timeline, oral interviews, service recording, and digital artifacts that represent the congregation are included in this collection.
