This flaming chalice is a symbol of light and the Universalist Unitarian faith. The congregation received this chalice as a gift from Betty Gienke and her family in memory of Betty’s husband, Dr. Erwin L. Gienke. The flaming chalice is a symbol of the light of reason, the warmth of community, the flame of hope, and the divine glow in every life. The candle within the chalice is lit at every worship service and extinguished at the end of the service. It typically rests in front of and to the side of the pulpit.
