This edition is edited by Samuel Johnson's biographer, James Boswell. Though the volumes are comparable in size to the volumes in the 1773 Johnson and Steevens edition, this sixth volume contains only two plays with notes. Jaques' speech in As You Like It, now distributed over four pages to accommodate a greater number of more voluminous notes, would take up even more space but for Boswell's ploy: "On account of the length of the notes on this passage, I have thrown them to the end of the play."
