Title

Out-of-state student adopts dog to combat feeling of loneliness

Description

While some out-of-state students chose to make the move to Milwaukee either out of hope that the university would offer in person classes or for other reasons, those that chose not to make the move to Milwaukee and attend their classes from their home state have experienced feelings of loneliness and isolation. Students experiencing this have had to find different ways to combat these feelings. One student’s way to combat these feelings was to adopt a new dog to keep her company.
“Beginning my program virtually and at home felt both anticlimactic and lonely. I felt that I was being judged for not making the move to Milwaukee, and I felt isolated from my program and studies. I struggled with feelings of loneliness and isolation, so I eventually adopted a six-month-old puppy to keep me company. Now a year old, I could not imagine being home alone all day without her, even if she does steal all my things and chews my shoes.”
