Title

Out-of-State Student's home office for virtual classes

Description

Homeown: Wildwood, Missouri
"I accepted my offer to the anthropology master’s program at UWM during the midst of a global pandemic. Not only that, but I had also just graduated with my bachelor’s degrees from the University of Missouri while sitting at my desk next to my childhood bed on an ordinary Friday in May 2020. Pre-pandemic, I had planned to use the summer of 2020 as an opportunity to explore potential thesis topics, but as the weeks went on and the pandemic got worse, I spent most of my time thinking over my options for the upcoming semester. When UWM officially announced that all classes were to be taught online, I made the decision to work virtually from my hometown in St. Louis, Missouri. Ultimately, I believe staying home was the correct decision considering the current circumstances, but it was not how I wanted to begin my first year of graduate school. I had to upgrade my “home office” tremendously, as I didn’t even have a desk when I first started working virtually during my last semester of undergrad. I now have a comfortable desk chair, a second monitor, and a laptop stand, and I no longer sit at my kitchen table hunched over my laptop."
