In the years immediately following World War I, Yiddish theatre (on stage, screen, and radio) thrived in many places, most notably the US, Poland, and the new Soviet Union. The outbreak of World War II brought a halt to much of this activity in Europe, though new work continued to be created and performed during the war under the most difficult circumstances.
