More, the daughter of a schoolmaster, championed women’s education. She declared that women should be taught to read history, biography, geography, natural history, and other subjects that would allow them to understand the principles and morality of Christianity—an understanding crucial for their role in family life. More and her sisters established Sunday schools and industrial schools for children and their parents.
