Title
"Dancing Through Milwaukee" During COVID-19
Description
With the hashtag Save Our Stage (#saveourstage), videographer Timothy O'Donnell follows Milwaukee Ballet dancer Itzel Hernandez as she dances through the streets of downtown Milwaukee in a blue tutu and mask. This video demonstrates the various ways performers were performing until the stages open again due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In this photo, Itzel is posing next to a statue that was a part of sculptor Thomas J. Price's series of works in Milwaukee titled, Within the Folds (Dialogue Part I), 2020. The statue is a nine-foot bronze depiction of a standing Black man clothed in a hoodie, sport shoes and sweatpants, and it is Price’s idealized “everyman.” It is sited against Milwaukee’s US Bank Center, and its bronze patina is in sharp contrast against the white aluminum façade of the financial skyscraper, contributing boldly to the cultural discussions around race and equity that Price chooses to illustrate in his work as a sculptor.
