Title
Early March 2020: University Housing - Housing Will Stay Open
Description
Email from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Housing stating that housing was not closing. Spring break was being extended an extra week with remote instruction to follow, however housing stated that residents did not have anything to worry about. This email was sent in early March 2020. Housing would later decide that housing would in fact close despite what they initially told residents.
“Colleges were closing all around us left and right. This email stating that University housing would stay open made me question it even as I read it. Nevertheless, the Kenilworth apartments were apartments - not dorms. I assume that even if the university did close, they would continue to let us stay in the apartments. It's not like this city was evicting people out of apartments because that's where they lived. During this time frame it was also UWM's spring break. I decided to pack a small suitcase and go home to be with my parents for a week and then come back to my apartment. I was so wrong in that assumption.”
