This is a collegiate Latin edition of Virgil's works, first published by J.G. Cooper in the 1820s. It came about from a perceived lack of a comprehensive collegiate edition of Virgil which would "lighten the labor of the teacher, and facilitate the acquisition of a knowledge of the poet." Cooper argued that previous editions gave the student either too much textual illustration, or not enough to adequately understand the subtlety of Virgil's work.
