Organized in 1869, Calvary Presbyterian Church has long reflected the many changes of Milwaukee's west side. As the first Presbyterian built west of the Milwaukee River, Calvary's founding was part of the immediate area's transformation from the city's rural outskirts to a fashionable neighborhood. When the church opened a community center in the early 1900s to reach out to the neighborhood's growing population of European immigrants, it was again responding to area's changing conditions. The process continues to this day, as Calvary continues to reinvent itself in light of the city's ongoing changes.
