In 1947 Pastor John Lewis decided to set fire to the church in hopes of raising the funds and causing the need for the congregation to build a new and more fanciful church. This is a picture of the interior of the church soon after the fire had been put out. Notice how sunlight shines through the holes in the walls and ceiling created by the fire, along with some ash still on the ground.
