In the early 1900's Calvary Presbyterian church went from being on the Western edge of the city to being at the center. The church itself was flourishing with many rich and influential members from Grand Avenue such as the Davidsons. With this wealth and influenced by the social gospel, the church opened a community center at 62 Eighth Street and later relocated in 1926 to 95 Eighth Street (now, 521 8th Street) in order to give back to the community. In this picture, children can be seen playing outside of the community center, perhaps during some sort of outdoor program or recess.
