Title

Portrait of a College Freshman

Description

Phareda Be describes this photograph as the first picture taken of her after becoming a college freshman. She had just finished a professional photoshoot with the Boys and Girls Club and decided to go to the park to have some fun. "In this picture," Be explained, "I felt confident and felt like I am an adult because I was doing these adult things of having a professional headshot. But at the same time, this picture was meant to show how free I feel and the power I want to hold. It also shows...me thriving and being happy.” While the transition to college was not as she expected, she successfully grasped on to virtual learning in her first two semesters as a college student. Being a visual learner, however, she misses the one-on-one interactions with professors, teaching assistants, and students. She looks forward to in-person classes in Fall 2021 to make those connections.
