Title

Portrait of a College Freshman

Description

Phareda Be describes this photograph as the first picture taken of her after becoming a college freshman. She had just finished a professional photoshoot with the Boys and Girls Club and decided to go to the park to have some fun. "In this picture," Be explained, "I felt confident and felt like I am an adult because I was doing these adult things of having a professional headshot. But at the same time, this picture was meant to show how free I feel and the power I want to hold. It also shows...me thriving and being happy.โ€ While the transition to college was not as she expected, she successfully grasped on to virtual learning in her first two semesters as a college student. Being a visual learner, however, she misses the one-on-one interactions with professors, teaching assistants, and students. She looks forward to in-person classes in Fall 2021 to make those connections.
