Election Results
The results of Wisconsin's spring election were slow in coming. Because so many people chose to vote absentee, it took several days to learn that Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Daniel Kelly lost his seat to challenger Jill Karofsky. It also took several weeks to learn whether the election led to a spike in COVID-19 cases as many feared. According to the state and local public health officials, at least 71 poll workers and voters contracted the coronavirus because of their participaiton in the eleciton.
But the question that continues to remain unresolved is whether Wisconsin's experience is a preview of the situation everyone in the United states might find themselves in come the fall elections. As the Wisconsin Election Commission found in its report on the spring election, the demand for absentee ballots overwhelmed the system forcing thousands of voters to vote in person. Many could find themselves in a similar place in the future.
