Description
The 1561 Stow edition exists in two different issues. The 'first issue' has the title within a woodcut compartment (McKerrow & Ferguson 67) and has the Prologue on leaves [fleuron]2-A4 with woodcut illustrations at the beginning of each of the sections of the Prologue. The 'second issue' has a t.p. with Chaucer's coat of arms with the date 1560 above the shield and an unillustrated Prologue on leaves A2-A6. The UWM Libraries have the 'second issue.'
William Thynne's edition with additions by John Stow
Contains some dubious Chaucerian works added by John Stow as well as The Siege and destruction of the worthy city of Thebes, attributed to John Lidgate but possibly written by John Stowe.
