Richard Le Gallienne was a native of the Channel Islands who, after a brief apprenticeship as an accountant, devoted his life to writing. English Poems, his first book of poetry, was heavily influenced by his association with fellow members of the Rhymers’ Club including W.B. Yeats.

Continuing to write verse and criticism, he moved to the United States in 1901, where he published Omar Repentant in 1908. In 1927, he moved to the south of France.
