Dorothy Violet Wellesley

Among those writers who became close to Yeats late in his life was Dorothy Wellesley, Duchess of Wellington, a poet who admired Yeats very much. Yeats included what some thought was a disproportionate number of her poems in the Oxford Book of Modern Verse which he edited in 1936. She published several volumes of poetry, including Jupiter and the Nun and Poems of Ten Years, and she sponsored and edited the Hogarth Living Poets series for Virginia and Leonard Woolf’s Hogarth Press.
