An oil-fueled crematory would be added to the basement of the chapel in 1896. The crematory was the first in Wisconsin attracting families from outside Milwaukee. A waiting room would also be added in the basement near the crematory where a family could wait and pray. The crematory remained in operation until 1997 after Forest Home built a new cremation facility that uses natural gas.
