The Forest Home Cemetery was established and had its' first burial in August, 1850. The goal of the cemetery was to be a garden cemetery meant to preserve as much of the natural landscape as possible. For much of the late 1800's the cemetery served as a place of leisure for people to spend their Sunday visiting to relax and escape the bustling city. As Milwaukee continued to urbanize the Forest Home Cemetery maintained a natural setting.
