Community Appreciation

Description

I took this picture in April, 2020 after walking out of a long 12-hour shift at the hospital. Every time I look at this picture it brings back many of the different emotions I had while working as a Registered Nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic. Feelings of anxiety, stress, and fear were common during the start of the pandemic as I would walk into work each day. However, walking out of work that night and seeing the chalk writing on the sidewalk outside of the hospital made it all worth it. Reading the kind words of appreciation really reinforced why I decided to work in healthcare. Although healthcare workers and all essential workers faced many difficult times during the pandemic, it was wonderful to see how the community of Milwaukee came together to support us. I am thankful for the strength and courage I have gained while working during the pandemic. It truly has taught me to appreciate the little things in life, such as the kind gesture of the chalk writing on the pavement.
