With all the stress and chaos that has taken over in the past few weeks, I have to share some joy and light that our family experienced today:
Today is our beautiful Bodhi’s 6th birthday. He was understandably very disappointed to be house-bound for his birthday. Bodhi is such a social kid, and celebrating without extended family or friends was a huge bummer.
Yesterday, I sent out an SOS asking for friends and family to send video birthday messages to Bodhi that we could compile into a video to play while we ate cake. Almost 30 videos came our way – heartfelt messages from our closest family and friends, as well as friends we haven’t seen in years, and some school friends of his who I haven’t yet had a chance to meet. It was AMAZING. Bodhi’s entire face lit up, and he spent the entire video grinning ear-to-ear. We all felt the LOVE and support of our people! Our village is amazing.
PLUS, our sweet friend Elliot had his mom drop off a gift (with proper social distancing, left in our building lobby) and the sweetest handmade card. Elliot is a soccer and school friend of Tiago’s, so getting this surprise from a “cool older kid” meant the world to him.
Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better…
Bodhi’s buddy Lucy (along with her amazing parents and siblings) planned and executed the most amazing scavenger hunt around our neighborhood for Bodhi on his birthday. Bodhi and Tiago were sent on treasure hunt, following hand-written clues – SO impressive!-- to all sorts of amazing treasures (a six pack of silly string! An Olaf pinata! A brand new pack of colored pencils! A Ukelele!)…and at the end? A treasure trunk FULL of toys (which they had magically gotten into Mamie’s car, safe out of the rain, much to Bodhi’s delight). Delgado Family, you are gold star friends!!
I am literally in tears over here. I’m blown away by such a kind and thoughtful gesture. Bodhi has declared several times today that “THIS IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!”.
Let’s all remember that this is the perfect time to surprise the people around us with a little extra kindness and joy. It is more impactful now than ever before.
