Online Dance Class and Community

Sophia Ward is a freshman at UW-Milwaukee. With the outbreak of the pandemic, Sophia left the dorms on campus, and returned home to Illinois to participate in online coursework. Her dance course that originally met in person, now meets via webcam. She stated, "Although my courses has [sic] drastically changed this past month I have found that African Dance was the most refreshing and exciting online class! Being able to dance with my classmates twice a week online is a lot of fun and breaks up the monotony of daily online lecture style classes. This pandemic has allowed us to create our own choreography and practice in front of our peers as opposed to doing a pre-choreographed dance recital. Having a passionate and dedicated instructor has made this uncertain time much more bearable, and I am thankful to be a part of such a celebratory community!" This photo was taken on April 29, 2020.
