Synopsis

11-year-old Esther has no mother. Her friends Yosele, Pesele and Khanele come to visit her one night to keep her company. They also say they are scared of being left alone at night, as their parents have gone out. Following the clues given in a dream of Esther’s, the four children set out to look for Esther’s mother in a nearby valley. They encounter two adults: a man with a dog who plays with the wind and talks to the mountains; and an old woman who gathers herbs for sick children. The children continually lose each other in the valley, and are unsure if they can trust the adults. The children wonder if the old woman is Esther’s mother, but the old woman denies it, reassures them, and sends them home.
