John Schott
John Schott is one of the Bay Area’s most visible guitarists and composers. Whether leading his eleven-member chamber group Ensemble Diglossia or performing on solo acoustic guitar, his work explores the intersection and expressive possibilities of multiple musical languages.
Schott grew up in Seattle, Washington where he studied with jazz musicians Gary Peacock and Jerry Granelli; and classical composers David Schiff and Janice Giteck. Schott majored in classical composition at Seattle’s Cornish College of the Arts. Since moving to the Bay Area in 1988, Schott has recorded and performed with John Zorn, Henry Kaiser, Duck Baker, Peter Apfelbaum, Fred Frith, and Julian Priester.
