Notes: Each page is printed with the name of a sample of “not paper.” The text is printed on a strip of white paper ¼ the size of the larger accordion that is sewn in to the larger accordion. Samples of “not paper” are tipped in on this paper. Cover is printed with wood type in acrylic paint. Copies were made in several different colors.
“Conceptually based on our earlier miniature, Almost Paper [A89], this book describes paper-like materials that are not paper including amate, birch bark, parchment, papyrus, tapa, Tyvek and wasp nest with actual samples of each material.
Each page was printed on a different color/making of my handmade paper. I used paper in the shop left over from previous editions and the 48 copy limitation was based on the fact that I could only find enough of some sheets to make that many copies. Each page describes one not paper, for example "amate," and that word is printed on the page in multiple colors using multiple type faces. An additional strip of white paper that is about 1/4 the full sheet size, printed with the definition of amate and with a square where a sample of amate was pasted in, is stitched in over the backing sheet.”
