Binding: Simple accordion; covers are green painted paper over boards. Title and illustration on label on cover. Held by a green painted paper sleeve with blue paper lining. Title and illustration on label on sleeve. Paper: White with visible fibers, handmade by Peter Thomas from cotton rag and Donna Thomas’s shirt. Printing: Digital. Typography: Reproduction of text handwritten by Donna Thomas. Illustration: Reproductions of thirty-nine watercolor paintings by Donna Thomas. Notes: Donna Thomas and Katy McLaughlin hiked the John Muir trail in 2002. They identified these flowers and Donna painted them on the spot.

“As well as landscapes, Donna painted the flowers she found along the trail. Each realistic rendition is accompanied by common and scientific names, and the location where it was painted. These illustrations have been color copied on Peter’s handmade paper (made from cotton rag and the shirt Donna wore on the trail).”

“In 2002 Donna once again hiked the 218 mile John Muir Trail. She hiked 29 days and painted a landscape picture a day. Her paintings have been reproduced as beautiful color copies on Peter’s handmade paper (made from cotton rag and the shirt Donna wore on the trail). It has 24 accordion pages which measure 2 5/8 by 2 1/8 inches, and is hand bound using painted handmade paper over boards. It also has a paper matchbox-like slipcase.”
