This edition employs the Garth translation of Ovid's Metamorphoses first published in 1717. This translation is distinctive because of the translators that took part in the completion of the work -- John Dryden, Joseph Addison, John Gay, William Congreve, and a fragment by Alexander Pope. The work was coordinated by Sir Samuel Garth.
The illustrator of this edition is Hans Erni, a prominent mid-twentieth century artist. Erni illustrated many deluxe books, though this was his first work for The Limited Editions Club. He completed fifteen hand-pulled etchings for this edition.
