This is a cover of a booklet published by CBINT called “Torah Shall Come from Zion …” It features the Torah gates in the sanctuary as well as the lateral windows. These date from the sanctuary renovation, completed in 2006. The steel doors measure 12 feet in height by 5 feet in width. The gates are surrounded by Jerusalem stone and the design depicts a flame going upward and outward. The use of vivid colors uplifts the spirit and helps the congregants achieve a worshipful state of mind. The fire symbolism references the fire of Torah, which is often called the tree of life. Two stained glass windows bookend the gates and represent an extension of the flame. The design of these windows includes iridescent sparks. The theme of the right window is the basic Torah principle from Leviticus 19:18: “Love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.” The theme of the window on the left is the congregation’s connection to the written and oral law of Judaism, Torah and Jewish law, respectively.
