One cannot tell the history of Milwaukee without telling the history of Congregation Emanu-El B'ne Jeshurun. Organized in 1850 as "Imanu-Al," the congregation is Milwaukee's oldest synagogue. From this early gathering both B'ne Jeshurun and Emanu-El would form, which existed as separate congregations throughout the turn of the twentieth century. But as the residential patterns of Milwaukee's Jewish community changed, the congregations would merge and relocate twice during the twentieth century.
