As word continued to roll in about increasing cases of the coronavirus globally and locally, the Milwaukee area prepared for the worse. In early March, universities began planning for the transition to online courses. Shortly after, public schools informed students and staff they would be transitioning to online learning for two weeks in order to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Eventually the governor's extension of the "Safer at Home" order required schools to remain online for the rest of the school year.
While every school in Wisconsin had to move online, however, not every student or teacher experienced this transition the same. The items connected here reveal the disparities in Milwaukee's educational systems. In addition to remote learning, the Milwaukee Public School District also created a meal distribution schedule at various schools for students who relied on these meals. At Glen Mills Middle School in Glendale, meanwhile, students received Chromebooks and educational packets right away.
