Bikes are the new Toilet Paper, A look into how leisure time has changed in the era of Covid

Subject

Bikes and outdoor activites taking the place of more traditional vacations and leisure activites

Description

When it comes to Covid many things in everyone's life had to change. One area that was most affected was travel and leisure time. Travel numbers were cut down by around 75% between the same two dates from 2019 to 2020 according to TSA statistics. People were forced to make changes to their plans including how they spent their usual days off. Many common tourist or leisure time locations had to make changes to stay in business and to still be able to interact with the public. These changes that were made by the individuals as well as the groups attempting to survive and keep some normality is the focus of the collections. People often had to put up protection around their cash wraps or switch to takeout only at restaurants. Others had to pivot their plans on vacation. Many are changing their plans from flights and long train and bus trips to local exploration walks or bike rides with their family. Often students have to change their recess plans due to online school. This collection looks to document the changes of people's lives with a specific dive into how they send their leisure time and the lighter less structured portions of their lives, a part of our lives that often gets overlooked in the era of Covid. This collection centers around the theme of bikes and outdoor events taking the place of traditional vacation such as bike rides, camping, hiking, etc. This is a portion of our lives that nearly everyone has had to make changes for and deserves the same coverage as the less lighthearted aspects such as work/occupational changes and the changes to the educational system that many are still attempting to make the most of today.
